Kogi Senate Candidate Accuses Gov. Yahaya Bello of Human Rights Abuses Over Youth Leader
A senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti, has accused Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state over torture of one Friday Ovoro, she tweeted earlier today.
According to the tweet in which she mentioned the handle of the President and the Vice, the candidate tweeted that Friday; her party leader had been abducted and tortured for twenty days in Kogi government house to admit she (the candidate) gave him guns.
The tweet reads:
“Dear @MBuhari & @ProfOsinbajo, look at what Yahaya Bello Gov Kogi St did 2 my youth leader Friday Ovoro. Abducted & tortured for 20 days in kogi Govmt house to admit I gave him guns. Sad the @NGRPresident, @PoliceNG & @hrw turn a blind eye to this evil #Natasha#Akpoti#SDP “
However, as at the filling of this report, there has been no evidence of the possession of guns by the said youth leader, and it remains to be seen whether the Police, whom the candidate alleged in other tweets to have worked with the state governor, plans to arrest Friday over illegal possession of firearms. Attempts to get in touch with the spokesperson for the governor has proved abortive, and the Police commissioner could not be gotten to speak with to ascertain the authenticity of this claim.
