The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (Peoples Democratic Party), chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has announced that it has assumed control of the party’s national leadership following a Supreme Court judgment that nullified the party’s November 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, and affirmed the suspension of some key national officers.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the BoT said the move became necessary to avert a leadership vacuum at the national level of the party in the aftermath of the ruling delivered by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The decision, according to the statement, is intended to restore order and maintain the continuity of party administration pending further internal consultations and legal clarifications.
The development follows the apex court’s verdict which effectively threw the party’s leadership structure into uncertainty, triggering immediate reactions across different factions within the PDP and raising questions about the validity of decisions taken by the affected national officers since the disputed convention.
Political observers say the BoT’s intervention could temporarily stabilise the party, but may also deepen internal tensions if rival groups challenge its authority or interpretation of the judgment.
The ruling is expected to set off a wider process of negotiation, realignment, and possible restructuring within the party as it attempts to resolve its leadership crisis ahead of future political engagements.
