Three weeks after President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Dr Abdulrazak Namdas as Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), controversy has erupted over claims that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is yet to issue his appointment letter.
The delay has reportedly triggered a leadership dispute within the agency, with the immediate past Director-General, Dakorinama George, allegedly continuing to perform official duties despite the President’s announcement naming Namdas as his successor.
Afrilensnews reports that President Tinubu, through a statement issued on June 26 by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced Namdas’ appointment alongside several other key appointments.
However, nearly three weeks later, the appointment is yet to be formally implemented, fueling speculation over what may be responsible for the delay.
Multiple reports indicate that the absence of the official appointment letter has stalled Namdas’ assumption of office, creating uncertainty over the agency’s leadership and raising concerns within political and administrative circles.
The development has also sparked debate over the implementation of presidential directives, with observers warning that any prolonged delay could send mixed signals about internal coordination within the Federal Government.
Neither the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation nor the Presidency has publicly explained why the appointment letter has not been released. However, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has maintained that President Tinubu has not reversed Namdas’ appointment.
Political analysts say the controversy could generate unnecessary tension within government if left unresolved, while also affecting policy continuity and decision-making at the Border Communities Development Agency.
The situation is expected to attract increased public and political attention in the coming days, particularly if the Presidency or the SGF’s office issues a formal clarification on the status of the appointment.
