Thousands of young people from across Enugu State turned out in large numbers for the Peter Eze Youth Connect 2026, an empowerment and career-focused programme designed to equip youths with knowledge, skills and opportunities for personal and professional development.

The event, held at the Enugu International Conference Centre Thursday, attracted a massive crowd, with the 4,000-capacity Main Hall filled to capacity, leaving many young people unable to gain access to the venue.

Afrilensnews reports that the huge turnout reflects the growing demand among Enugu youths for programmes centred on education, career development, scholarships and access to genuine opportunities, particularly at a time when many young Nigerians are searching for sustainable pathways into employment and professional growth.

In a message thanking participants, Hon. Peter Eze, Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), said his greatest satisfaction was not simply seeing the hall filled but knowing that participants gained something meaningful from the programme.

โ€œOur greatest joy is knowing that every youth who attended went home with value for their time, new knowledge, and greater opportunities,โ€ Eze said.

He also apologised to young people who could not enter the hall because of the overwhelming turnout, noting that the response demonstrated the strong interest among Enugu youths in personal development and future opportunities.

Eze congratulated the beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme, describing the initiative as only the beginning of a broader effort to empower young people.

โ€œA very big congratulations to all the winners of the scholarship scheme. This is only the beginning,โ€ he said.

The programme could have a significant impact on Enugu youths by exposing them to scholarships, career information, professional networks and legitimate employment opportunities. Such initiatives can help young people build careers based on competence and merit rather than dependence on political connections.

Eze had previously maintained that young Nigerians should not need to know influential people before securing employment in the federal civil service, a position that places emphasis on merit, transparency and equal access to government opportunities.

That message could be particularly important for graduates and young job seekers in Enugu State, where access to reliable information about federal recruitment and public-sector opportunities can make a major difference in the ability of qualified applicants to compete.

Ezeโ€™s position at the commission gives the youth empowerment message an additional dimension, particularly in promoting awareness of fairness and equitable access to federal opportunities.

Beyond the immediate scholarship beneficiaries, initiatives of this nature could encourage a stronger culture of skills acquisition, continuous learning and self-development among young people in the state. It could also expose youths to mentors, institutions and opportunities capable of improving their chances of securing employment or building successful businesses.

The massive turnout at the Peter Eze Youth Connect 2026 therefore points to a wider demand among Enugu youths for practical opportunities, credible information and platforms capable of helping them compete on merit.

โ€œTogether, we are building a more informed, empowered and opportunity-driven generation of Enugu youths,โ€ Eze said.

The event ended with renewed emphasis on investing in the future of young people, with scholarship beneficiaries emerging among the immediate winners while thousands of other participants gained access to knowledge, information and opportunities that could shape their future.
