President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of high-level appointments across key institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, signaling a renewed push to strengthen governance and continuity in the sector.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments affect the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

The President appointed Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while retaining the current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.

In Plateau State, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam for a single five-year term, succeeding Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.

At the National Library of Nigeria, President Tinubu renewed the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer for a final five-year term. The presidency noted that her reappointment would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, including the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja and implementation of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.

For the NBTE, Professor Babatunde Salako was appointed Chairman, while the incumbent Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, was reappointed for a second and final five-year term.

Professor Adelabu, a retired Professor of Educational Administration and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, previously served as Chairman of NBTE, while Professor Salako is a renowned academic who led the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research as Director-General from 2016 to 2024.

Dr. Binfa, who holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, was until his appointment the Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.

The presidency emphasized that the appointments reflect a deliberate effort to reposition key education institutions for improved performance, innovation, and continuity in reform-driven leadership.
