The Labour Party has called on Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, compassion and unity during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while urging leaders across the country to govern with justice and empathy amid worsening economic and social challenges.

In an Eid-el-Kabir message issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the opposition party said the annual Islamic celebration goes beyond festivities and serves as a reminder of faith, obedience and selflessness as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

The party extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, describing Eid al-Adha as a sacred occasion carrying enduring lessons for both citizens and leaders.

According to the statement, “Eid al-Adha symbolizes the profound faith, obedience, sacrifice, and total submission exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) in his total devotion to the will of Almighty Allah.”

The Labour Party noted that the spiritual significance of the season should inspire greater commitment to humanity, peaceful coexistence and national unity.

The party stated that the current realities confronting Nigeria,, including economic hardship, insecurity, hunger and rising social tensions — make the values associated with the Islamic festival even more relevant.

“At a time our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, hunger, and growing social and ethno-religious tensions, the values embodied by Eid al-Adha have become even more urgent and relevant,” the statement said.

The party subsequently urged Nigerians to show greater kindness and generosity toward vulnerable members of society.

“We therefore urge Nigerians to embrace compassion, generosity, and mutual understanding, especially towards the less privileged and vulnerable in society.”

The Labour Party also directed its message at public office holders, urging those in authority to place citizens’ welfare above political interests.

“The Labour Party also calls on those entrusted with leadership and public responsibility to govern with justice, fairness, equity, and empathy,” the statement added.

The Eid message arrives at a period of intense national debate over economic reforms, rising inflation, cost-of-living pressures and security concerns across parts of the country.

Political parties have increasingly used religious and national occasions to connect governance concerns with broader appeals for unity and accountability.

The party prayed for peace, prosperity and renewed hope for Nigerians, concluding with wishes for a blessed Eid celebration and acceptance of sacrifices and acts of worship by Almighty Allah.
