Afrilensnews reports that Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has explained why she set ablaze the outfit she wore to the burial of late actor Alexx Ekubo.
The actress disclosed that the decision was based on advice from her godmother, who warned that clothes worn to burial ceremonies should not be kept after the event.
Ekubo was laid to rest last week in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, following his death on May 11 after a prolonged battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.
Sharing the reason behind her action on her Instagram story, Okorie posted a video showing the dress being burnt.
“This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My Godmother said it is not good to keep the clothes you wore to a burial around you; you should burn them,” she wrote.
“So family and friends, take note. I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen. Chaiii.”
The revelation has sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the practice is rooted in cultural beliefs, tradition, spirituality, or personal conviction.
The development comes months after Okorie faced legal troubles. In January, she was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre following her arraignment over alleged cyber-related offences. Although authorities did not publicly disclose full details of the charges, reports linked the matter to her public feud with fellow actress Mercy Johnson.
Observers say her latest disclosure could further fuel discussions about burial customs and long-held beliefs surrounding death and mourning in parts of Nigeria.
