The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that winners have emerged from its party primaries, describing the publications as fake, misleading and premature.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC clarified that its primaries are scheduled to take place on Friday, May 29, 2026, stressing that no legitimate results could have been produced before the exercise.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to inform the general public that our party primaries are scheduled to hold tomorrow, 29th May 2026,” the statement said.
“It is therefore impossible and illogical for any primary results or winners to have emerged when the primaries are yet to take place.”
The party urged Nigerians, supporters and members to disregard any alleged results currently being circulated on social media and other platforms, insisting that only information released through official party channels should be considered authentic.
“We strongly urge the public and all well-meaning Nigerians to completely disregard the fake NDC primary results and false rumours currently circulating. Any result that does not emanate from official party sources should be disregarded,” the statement added.
The NDC further reaffirmed its commitment to conducting what it described as a transparent and credible primary election process.
“NDC remains committed to a transparent and credible primary process. We appeal to all our supporters and registered members to stay vigilant and ignore any unverified information.”
The development comes amid heightened political activities ahead of forthcoming elections and growing speculation over candidate emergence across several political parties. Fake or premature primary results have increasingly become a source of tension within parties, often fueling confusion, factional disputes and legal challenges.
Political observers say the circulation of unverified outcomes before the conduct of primaries could undermine confidence in the internal democratic process and trigger avoidable controversies among aspirants and supporters if not promptly addressed by party leadership.
