Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has commenced the construction of additional education, healthcare and security facilities across Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State as part of efforts to improve public services and expand development opportunities.
Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, performed the foundation-laying ceremonies for three major development projects on Saturday, October 31, 2026, covering education, healthcare and public safety infrastructure.
Afrilensnews reports that the projects include a new secondary school with 10 classrooms, offices and toilet facilities at Saidu Primary School, Samaru, as well as a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre in the community.
In the healthcare sector, the Speaker facilitated the construction of a diagnostic centre at Isa Chikaji Primary Healthcare Centre and a 20-bed primary healthcare centre at Zangon Dan Borno, both in Dogarawa.
The projects also include a new police station under the Zaria Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Sabon Gari.
Speaking during the ceremonies, Abbas said the projects were designed to address practical needs in education, healthcare and security while creating more opportunities for residents.
According to him, children deserve conducive learning environments, patients should have access to timely medical diagnosis, while young people should have opportunities to pursue further education and acquire relevant qualifications within their communities.
He said the projects were part of ongoing efforts to expand access to essential services and strengthen public safety across Sabon Gari.
The Speaker, however, cautioned that groundbreaking ceremonies must translate into completed projects, stressing that the real responsibility begins after the ceremonies. “A groundbreaking begins an obligation. It does not discharge it. The ceremony ends today. The responsibility continues tomorrow,” he said.
Abbas also disclosed that the wider development programme includes a youth development centre, emphasising that its impact would be measured by the opportunities it creates for young people.
He stressed the need to connect vocational training with employment opportunities, enterprise development and practical avenues for young people to utilise their skills.
The Speaker further highlighted other ongoing constituency projects requiring sustained attention, including the 320-bed male and female hostel at the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), renovation of Aminu Primary School, runway extension at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and faculty buildings at the main campus and Faculty of Social Sciences of Ahmadu Bello University.
He assured constituents that the projects would be completed to the required standards, stressing the importance of quality, safety and timely delivery.
Abbas also listed additional projects captured under the 2026 Budget, including a new terminal and runway for commercial flights at NCAT, a library, rural market, mega town hall, upgraded polo field, reconstructed township stadium and roads.
He maintained that constituency projects must produce tangible benefits for the people, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would become meaningful when its objectives translated into improved education, dependable healthcare and economic opportunities at the grassroots.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to following through on the projects, assuring residents that the development initiatives would receive the necessary attention until completion.
