The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice strongly condemns the ongoing orchestrated campaign of calumny directed at AIG Jimoh Moshood by certain social media commentators, notably Martins Vincent Otse (aka VeryDarkMan), regarding the tragic killings in Ajiran, Lagos State. We are stepping in to correct this dangerous narrative before digital mob justice replaces the rule of law.
The coalition states categorically that the allegations of compromise and evidence-tampering levelled against AIG Moshood are entirely baseless and malicious. The investigation into the murders of Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Ademola Akinloye was conducted with strict adherence to standard policing protocols.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the National Coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, said AIG Jimoh Moshood has maintained an unblemished record of transparency and zero tolerance for crime. He noted that attempts to link the senior police officer to a cover-up amount to a desperate ploy to derail justice and secure public sympathy for criminal elements.
The coalition stressed that freedom of speech does not translate into the freedom to blackmail, intimidate or criminally defame senior law enforcement officers for social media engagement.
It warned online commentators to desist from cheap media trials, insisting that the Nigeria Police Force is not a content farm for influencers and that blackmailing diligent officers to force the hands of justice poses a serious threat to institutional integrity.
The coalition commended the Force Public Relations Department and the ongoing administrative review by the FCID, expressing confidence that the process would ultimately vindicate AIG Moshood.
Accordingly, the coalition:
Urges the Inspector-General of Police to stand firmly by his diligent officers.
Calls on cybercrime units to ensure that purveyors of calculated defamation face the full wrath of the law.
The coalition maintained that the era of intimidating law enforcement through social media must come to an end, urging all parties to allow the police to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without undue interference.
