The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has formally declared his intention to seek another mandate to represent Zaria Federal Constituency, describing the massive public support he received in Zaria as a clear sign of confidence in his leadership and stewardship.
In a statement following a large political gathering in Zaria, Kaduna State, Abbas said the event was not merely a campaign activity but “a powerful reminder that the bond between leadership and the people must always be rooted in trust, service, and visible impact.”
The declaration attracted a large turnout of supporters, party loyalists, youth groups, traditional stakeholders and residents from different parts of Zaria and Sabon Gari, with a solidarity walk reportedly stretching through major streets before converging at the Mallawa Eid Ground.
Abbas, who currently serves as Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, said the support demonstrated by residents reaffirmed a shared commitment to “continuity, progress, and purposeful representation.”
“I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming show of solidarity and support from the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency as I formally declared my intention to seek another mandate to represent you in the House of Representatives,” he stated.
Reflecting on his years in office, the lawmaker pointed to projects and interventions executed across education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment and economic support schemes, insisting that his record goes beyond political promises.
“Over the years, we have worked together to deliver practical results — from investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic support for families and small businesses. These are not promises; they are projects and interventions that our people can see, feel, and benefit from directly,” Abbas said.
The Speaker also used the occasion to commend Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as courageous leadership under the Renewed Hope agenda, while praising Uba Sani for efforts toward peace and development in Kaduna State.
Political observers believe Abbas’ early declaration may significantly shape political calculations ahead of the next National Assembly elections, especially within Kaduna State where the ruling All Progressives Congress continues to consolidate its structures ahead of another electoral cycle.
Analysts also note that as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas remains one of the most influential northern political figures within the current administration, and his re-election bid is expected to strengthen ongoing alignments within the APC in Kaduna and across the North-West.
His endorsement of continuity and “experienced leadership” is also being interpreted as a subtle message to potential challengers within and outside the ruling party that his camp intends to maintain firm control of the constituency’s political structure.
Addressing supporters, Abbas expressed gratitude to traditional rulers, religious leaders, women groups, professionals, traders, artisans, farmers and party faithful for standing by him throughout his political journey.
“The work is not finished. Our constituency deserves sustained progress, experienced leadership, and stronger representation at the national level. By the grace of God, I remain fully committed to deepening the gains we have made together and building an even brighter future for our people,” he added.
The development comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major political actors already positioning themselves for critical contests at both state and federal levels.
