The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a sweeping reorganisation and redeployment of inspectors and rank-and-file officers within and outside the Nigeria Police Force, with a significant number of personnel moved out of the Edo State Command.
The mass redeployment directive was contained in an official police signal dated May 1, 2026, bearing reference number CB: 4770/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.33/23, and addressed to Commissioners of Police in the Departments of Finance and Administration as well as commands in Akure, Benin City, Lokoja and Port Harcourt.
According to the internal memo, the exercise affects officers across several formations, with those impacted ordered to immediately proceed to their newly assigned commands and duty posts as approved by the police hierarchy.
“The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the re organisation of the following Inspectors/Rank and Files in/out of Edo State Police Command as indicated against their names,” the signal partly read.
The document was signed on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration and endorsed by the Commissioner of Police, Welfare.
Among officers affected by the reshuffle are Danmaina Ibrahim, Okungbawa Osahon, Enakhimion Jimah, Agbi Osaro, Kenneth Akhere, Akinosun Lukman, Okoh Ifeanyi and Ikpikhumi Aigbegenode, all transferred from the Edo State Command to the Rivers State Command.
Others listed include Alemoh Julius, Alfred Edosa, Otaigbe Flora, Cyprian Benjamin, Akomolafe Abiodun, Kasimu Queen, Tugbobo Abimbola, Ameh Alacha, Vivian Aikhionbare, Izedonmi Frank and Akintola Modupe.
Also redeployed are Priscilla Ebehigie, Owie Margaret, Oyaze Peter, Aigboghidi Osariemen, Adamu Musa, Ebimare Ikechukwu, Kate Egbon, Aitah Tuesday, Uworuya Aimierovbiye, Ayuba Ibrahim, Madu Shaibu, Opii Catherine and Udoyi Omogbeme.
Copies of the directive were forwarded to the IGP Secretariat at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Deputy Inspectors-General overseeing Finance and Administration as well as Operations, alongside Assistant Inspectors-General supervising Zones 5 Benin, 8 Lokoja, 16 Yenagoa and 17 Akure.
The Force Computer Unit, Force Orders, Records and Establishment departments were also copied in the communication, indicating the scale and official nature of the restructuring.
The latest redeployment is expected to trigger major operational adjustments within the Edo State Police Command and neighbouring formations, especially as security agencies continue strategic repositioning ahead of anticipated political and security developments across parts of the country.
Security analysts say such large-scale transfers are often aimed at strengthening command efficiency, addressing internal administrative concerns and preventing over-familiarity of officers within specific jurisdictions.
The development comes amid growing concerns over security management and policing effectiveness in several states, with authorities under pressure to improve intelligence coordination and law enforcement response nationwide.
