The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State for the 2027 general election, Rt. Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, has pledged to govern the state with the fear of God if elected governor on May 29, 2027.
Chinda made the pledge during the unveiling of candidates under the Rainbow Coalition at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt, where a large crowd of party supporters and political stakeholders gathered for the event.
Dressed in white with touches of blue and surrounded by party insignia and campaign images of himself and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chinda presented himself as prepared for the governorship contest.
He said the candidates unveiled under the coalition would work together towards forming a government of state unity, promising an administration focused on peace, cooperation and development rather than division, rancour or entitlement.
The APC candidate also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in developing the Rainbow Coalition initiative, which brings together political structures from about seven parties under a common political platform.
According to Chinda, the initiative is built around the need for peace, unity and political cooperation in Rivers State, which he described as essential to development and social cohesion.
The coalition is seeking the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027, alongside Chinda’s governorship ambition and those of other candidates contesting various elective positions under the arrangement.
Earlier, party stalwarts urged Rivers residents to support President Tinubu, citing appointments given to indigenes of the state and federal infrastructure projects as reasons for their position.
They also highlighted the Federal Government’s establishment of a federal university of environment and the completion of the Bonny-Bodo Road, which they said had improved road access to Bonny Island after years of waiting for the project.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara was among the prominent figures at the event. His appearance drew a response from the crowd as he presented flags to candidates of the coalition’s participating political parties and expressed support for their political aspirations.
Fubara also affirmed that Wike remained the political leader of Rivers State, according to the account of the event.
Wike, who addressed the gathering, urged Rivers voters to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, Chinda’s governorship ambition and other candidates fielded under the coalition.
He also called on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates across the country to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing the coalition’s broader political objective ahead of the 2027 general election.
