The appointment of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Jerrymon Samuel Manwe, as High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, with concurrent accreditation to Barbados, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, the Republic of Suriname and Saint Lucia, will further strengthen Nigeria’s relations with the Caribbean region, Dr Wilson Balogun has said.
According to Dr Balogun, the appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, brings to the Caribbean an exceptionally experienced public servant, former legislator and tested technocrat with the capacity to build bridges, strengthen partnerships and create new opportunities.
Dr Balogun stated that Manwe’s tenure would galvanise Nigerians in the Diaspora and deepen the historic relations between Nigeria and the Caribbean region. He noted that the High Commissioner’s wealth of experience in public service and legislative engagement would position him to foster meaningful collaboration between Nigeria and the Caribbean nations.
The High Commissioner will also play a critical role in attracting Foreign Direct Investment and promoting trade and investment between Nigeria and the Caribbean. According to Dr Balogun, this could open new economic frontiers and create opportunities for mutual prosperity across both regions.
Dr Balogun further highlighted that the appointment provides a unique opportunity to bring the Caribbean closer to Nigeria through cultural exchange, education, tourism and people-to-people connections that have long bound the two regions together.
“Nigeria and the Caribbean share deep historical and cultural ties that must be transformed into concrete partnerships for mutual prosperity,” Dr Balogun said.
He added that with the right leadership and strategic engagement, the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the Caribbean could be leveraged to promote sustainable development and unlock new opportunities.
“The opportunity before us is enormous, and the time to build stronger bridges is now. Strategic engagement will be key to unlocking the full potential of this relationship.
“Nigeria is ready. The Caribbean is ready. Let us build together.”
