The Labour Party has congratulated Brazil INA President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for an unprecedented fourth term, describing his victory as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in his leadership and the ideology of social democracy.
The party also urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Brazilian electoral experience by supporting Labour Party candidates across all elective positions in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
In a congratulatory message issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party noted that its ideological beliefs and political philosophy share similarities with those of Lula da Silva and his Workers’ Party (PT).
According to the statement, both parties are firmly rooted in social democracy, with a shared commitment to the welfare of the people, social justice, economic inclusion and equitable development.
The Labour Party said Lula’s victory demonstrated the confidence of Brazilian voters in a government whose ideological foundation is rooted in social democracy.
It urged Nigerians to support its candidates at all levels of government, including the presidency, arguing that the party has demonstrated its capacity and commitment to meeting the needs and aspirations of the people through the leadership of Governor Alex Otti in Abia State.
The party specifically described Otti’s administration as evidence of its fidelity to the cause of the people, insisting that the governor’s performance has demonstrated the party’s understanding of the governance expectations of Nigerians.
It maintained that its political heritage and social democratic philosophy offer Nigeria an opportunity to pursue a governance approach that prioritises citizens’ welfare, social justice, economic inclusion and balanced development.
The statement further expressed confidence that Nigeria stands to benefit from Labour Party leadership across all tiers of government, including the presidency.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the party called on Nigerians to remain confident in its vision for a better country.
It added that the Brazilian experience had demonstrated the power of citizens to shape their political destiny through the ballot box.
“The same is possible in Nigeria, because People Power is greater than political power,” the party declared.
