Afrilensnews reports that troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another significant success in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria’s North-West, recovering high-calibre weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other combat equipment from suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a military offensive in Kebbi State.
The operation, conducted on Sunday, June 14, around the Dogon Daji general area in Dandi Local Government Area, targeted members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has been linked to a series of violent attacks and criminal activities across parts of the region.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, and spokesperson for Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba.
According to Osoba, troops engaged the terrorists during a carefully coordinated offensive operation and overwhelmed them with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions and retreat.
“During the operation, the gallant troops brought superior firepower to bear on the Lakurawa Terrorist Group, decisively overwhelming the terrorists and forcing them to flee,” he said.
The military spokesperson explained that soldiers immediately pursued the fleeing terrorists along their withdrawal routes, leading to the discovery and recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, explosives and logistics materials left behind in the camp.
Items recovered during the operation included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launch tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple improvised explosive devices, two motorcycles reportedly used by the terrorists for movement, battery chargers and other personal effects.
Osoba noted that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation, describing the mission as another demonstration of the military’s growing effectiveness in dismantling terrorist networks operating within the North-West.
The latest seizure is expected to significantly weaken the operational capacity of the Lakurawa group by depriving its members of critical weapons, mobility assets and explosive materials that could have been deployed in future attacks against communities and security personnel.
Security analysts say the recovery of RPG launchers and IEDs points to the increasing sophistication of armed groups operating in the region, underscoring the need for sustained military pressure and intelligence-driven operations to prevent regrouping efforts.
Osoba said the success of the mission reflects the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to neutralise terrorist and bandit elements threatening peace and stability across the region.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining aggressive operations aimed at denying criminal groups freedom of movement, disrupting their logistics networks and enhancing security for residents.
The operation comes amid intensified military campaigns across the North-West, where security forces have stepped up efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other organised criminal activities.
The latest recovery is being viewed as another strategic setback for the Lakurawa terrorist network and a boost to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in affected communities.
