Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the wave of infrastructure projects currently transforming Abuja has become the strongest campaign tool for the administration ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that visible performance will speak louder than political promises.
Speaking during an inspection of the Arterial Road N16 and the Tunga Madaki–Zuba road projects on Wednesday, the minister maintained that governance would remain his administration’s priority, stressing that politics would not derail the completion of critical infrastructure across the nation’s capital.
Afrilensnews reports that Wike’s remarks come at a time political activities are gradually gathering momentum across Nigeria, with major parties positioning themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential election. His comments also reinforce the growing emphasis on performance and infrastructure delivery as key electoral selling points.
According to Wike, the administration’s achievements provide a convincing record that can be presented to Nigerians.
He said, “Voters are more interested in tangible results than political rhetoric,” stressing that the government has fulfilled many of its promises through ongoing infrastructure development.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the Arterial Road N16, a strategic route linking Jahi, Gwarimpa and Karsana.
He disclosed that the contractor, CBC Global, had assured the government that the road would be completed by January, adding that sufficient funding would be provided to ensure the deadline is achieved.
Wike also praised the progress recorded on the 7.3-kilometre Tunga Madaki–Zuba road being handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, noting that despite weather-related challenges, the company remains on course to deliver the project by December.
He further revealed that approval had been granted for the relocation of electricity poles along the road corridor to enable the installation of streetlights.
The FCT minister commended Chinese construction firms executing projects across Abuja, saying many of them commence work without waiting for mobilisation funds because of their confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to honour contractual obligations.
He assured residents that adequate funding would continue to be released for critical infrastructure while urging contractors to maintain quality standards and deliver projects within agreed timelines.
According to Wike, regular project inspections by the FCT Administration are designed to ensure speedy execution of projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Political observers believe Wike’s declaration could further intensify the battle for public perception ahead of 2027, with infrastructure delivery likely to become one of the dominant issues during campaigns. Opposition parties, however, may challenge the administration’s performance claims while presenting alternative records and promises to voters.
