Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun East, was on Monday barred from attending a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijebu Ode, escalating tensions within the party.
A viral video circulating on X captured the moment the senator’s convoy was denied access to Adeola Odutola Hall, the venue of the meeting, as party members gathered inside.
Addressing his supporters from a white bus parked outside the premises, Daniel insisted that any outcome from the meeting would not stand.
“We are here for our Ogun east APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter, but let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void,” he said in Yoruba.
The incident comes months after the Ogun chapter of the APC suspended Daniel indefinitely in August 2025 over alleged anti-party activities.
He was accused of directing his supporters to back Bolarinwa Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the August 16 by-election in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency, held to replace the late Adewunmi Onanuga.
Despite the controversy, the APC’s Adesola Elegbeji emerged winner of the poll, securing 41,237 votes against Oluwole’s 14,324, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State elected to the senate in 2023, is currently seeking a second term.
His ambition has reportedly put him on a collision course with Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, who is also eyeing the APC ticket for the Ogun East senatorial district—deepening the internal rift within the party.
