The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adjusted its 2027 election timetable, moving its presidential primary to May 23 in a move aimed at aligning with updated electoral laws and regulations.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, announced the decision in Abuja after the 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, confirming that the primary earlier scheduled for May 15 has now been pushed forward.

Despite the shift, the party maintained that Expression of Interest and Nomination forms remain open to all aspirants nationwide.

“This is the newest timetable reflecting updated legal and procedural requirements,” Meseko said.

He noted that the revised schedule has already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with electoral guidelines.

According to the updated timetable, sales of nomination forms will run from April 25 to May 2, while submission of completed forms closes on May 4. Screening for all aspirants—from House of Assembly to presidential hopefuls—will take place between May 5 and May 9, with presidential screening slated for May 9. Results across all categories are expected on May 11.

Meseko dismissed claims that nomination forms were being restricted, stressing that the process is fully inclusive.

“I am here to inform all party faithful that nomination forms are open to all aspirants seeking elective offices,” he said.

He further explained that the APC will adopt both direct and consensus options for its primaries, depending on prevailing conditions, but emphasized that consensus must be mutually agreed upon.

“Where consensus fails or is rejected by any aspirant, the party automatically reverts to direct primary elections,” he explained.

State chapters, he added, have the authority to determine the most suitable mode of primaries in their jurisdictions.

In Zamfara, internal party congresses are already scheduled, beginning with ward, local government, and state-level exercises from April 28, with ward congresses holding on April 30 and all processes expected to wrap up by May 3.

Meseko also assured members that the party’s updated national membership register, including new entrants, has been submitted to INEC, declaring that the APC is fully set for its 2027 primaries after completing all necessary administrative steps.
