The Senator representing Gombe South Senatorial District, Anthony Siyako Yaro, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what is fast becoming a widening wave of political realignments in Gombe State.

In a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the defection was described as part of a series of political movements “engineered by the governor,” noting that Senator Yaro is the latest in a growing list of key opposition figures joining the ruling party.

The statement also highlighted that three federal lawmakers had earlier defected from the PDP, including the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ali Isa JC, Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed of Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, and Hon. Inuwa Garba of Yamaltu Deba.

According to Misilli, the latest defection to the APC “has tightened the grip of the APC in the state, effectively consolidating its political dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

Senator Yaro was formally received into the party by APC leaders, including Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, and APC Deputy National Financial Secretary, Hon. Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, alongside Governor Yahaya.
