ADO-EKITI — Chairman of the Ekiti State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Organisation and Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has said the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State will serve as a major test of public confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s leadership, and the ruling party’s acceptance among voters.
Afrilensnews reports that Sani made the remarks while monitoring the electoral process across several polling units in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during the governorship election.
According to the Kaduna governor, the election represents more than a contest for the state’s top office, describing it as an opportunity for residents to assess the performance of both the federal and state governments under the APC.
“This election will be a referendum of the works of President Tinubu and the performance of the Oyebanji government in Ekiti State,” Sani said.
He further argued that opposition parties lacked significant grassroots presence in the state, maintaining that their activities were largely concentrated on social media platforms rather than among voters at the community level.
Sani was accompanied by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a visit to the party’s election situation room, where officials monitored incoming results from across the state.
The governor disclosed that the APC had deployed an Artificial Intelligence-enabled tracking system to collate and verify election data received from the field, with information cross-checked against reports from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The remarks come amid heightened political interest in the Ekiti governorship election, widely viewed by political observers as a significant indicator of voter sentiment ahead of future electoral contests across the country.
Political analysts believe a convincing victory for the APC could strengthen claims by the ruling party that President Tinubu’s policies continue to enjoy public support despite economic challenges and ongoing debates over reforms.
Conversely, a strong showing by opposition parties could signal growing voter dissatisfaction and reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The election has attracted national attention, with parties, observers and stakeholders closely monitoring voter turnout, the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and the transparency of the result collation process.
As voting and collation continue, attention remains focused on whether the final outcome will reinforce the APC’s dominance in Ekiti or provide an opening for opposition forces seeking to challenge the ruling party’s influence in the state.
