The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has reiterated the need for transparency, competitiveness and strict adherence to the Federal Character Principle in recruitment across public institutions, warning that employment processes must guarantee equal opportunities for qualified Nigerians.

Afrilensnews reports that the Chairman of the FCC Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, Peter Eze, made this known after presiding over an interactive meeting with the leadership of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN), led by its Registrar, Professor Kulomri Jipato Adogbo.

According to Eze who represents Enugu State in  FCC, the engagement focused on strengthening compliance with the commission’s Principle, promoting transparency in recruitment and ensuring equitable representation of all states and geopolitical zones in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

“The Committee reiterated that recruitment into public institutions must be open, competitive, and transparent, with vacancies advertised in national newspapers to guarantee equal opportunities for all qualified Nigerians,” Eze stated.

He added that the committee also stressed the importance of the timely utilisation of recruitment waivers, strict compliance with the Commission’s revised recruitment guidelines, regular submission of nominal rolls and the involvement of the Commission in promotion exercises by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Eze disclosed that the QSRBN leadership acknowledged the committee’s observations and pledged full compliance with the Commission’s new policy directives.

“QSRBN acknowledged the observations made by the Committee, pledged full compliance with the Commission’s new policy directives, and assured us that all requested documents would be submitted promptly,” he said.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, accountability and the faithful implementation of the Federal Character Principle across public institutions.

The renewed push by the Commission is expected to strengthen oversight of recruitment and promotion processes in government agencies, improve compliance with constitutional provisions on equitable representation and enhance public confidence in the fairness of employment practices within the federal public service.
