The candidate of the Lagos State House of Assembly for Amuwo Odofin Constituency II, Hon. Thomas Victor Onwubiko, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic collapse of a three-storey building at Alakija, Navy Town, in Lagos State, which reportedly claimed lives and left several persons trapped beneath the rubble.
In a statement issued on Thursday 25th June 2026, Onwubiko described the incident as heartbreaking and devastating, noting that the tragedy has plunged many families and residents of the community into grief and uncertainty.
The House of Assembly hopeful extended his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident, praying for strength and comfort for those mourning the loss of relatives and friends.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic collapse of the three-storey building at Alakija, Navy Town. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this unfortunate disaster,” Thomas Victor said.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the collapse and asked God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
This is a painful moment for our community. I pray that Almighty God grants eternal rest to the souls of the departed and gives their loved ones the courage and strength to overcome this difficult period, he added.
Hon. Thomas Victor Onwubiko also expressed concern for those who sustained injuries and those believed to be trapped under the debris, urging emergency responders and relevant agencies to intensify rescue operations to ensure that every possible life is saved.
He appealed to the Lagos State Government, emergency management agencies, security personnel, and other stakeholders involved in the operation to expedite rescue efforts and provide immediate medical attention and support to survivors.
I respectfully call on all relevant authorities and rescue agencies to hasten their operations and deploy every available resource toward locating and rescuing those who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Every minute counts in situations such as this, and urgent action is required to save lives, he stated.
The Amuwo Odofin Constituency II candidate further commended emergency workers and volunteers already on the ground for their commitment and courage in responding to the disaster, describing their efforts as invaluable during a critical moment.
