Former Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has formally resigned from office, citing health reasons, days before Bola Ahmed
Tinubu announced his replacement.
Edun, who turned 70 on Monday and has reportedly battled recent ill health, submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” his letter read.
“Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.
“I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”
Before the official announcement of his exit by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Edun paid a valedictory visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a closed-door meeting lasting about an hour.
He is expected to return to his private business engagements.
In a similar development, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, also stepped down from his position, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.
Dangiwa, an architect, previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank from 2015 to 2022 and as Secretary to the Katsina State Government before his ministerial appointment in August 2023.
President Tinubu has expressed deep appreciation to both Edun and Dangiwa for what he described as their dedicated service and key contributions to his administration’s economic reform agenda, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, the President has charged the newly appointed Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on existing reforms and push forward the government’s fiscal and economic priorities with discipline and innovation.
Tinubu is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma for the Housing Ministry to the Senate for confirmation.
