Jafaru Ibrahim Sani has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Kaduna State governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), positioning his bid as a corrective and continuity-driven project aimed at reshaping governance in the state.

In a declaration addressed to citizens of Kaduna State, Sani said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, political stakeholders, and residents across communities, insisting that growing support for his ambition was anchored on his experience in public service and grassroots connections.

He described Kaduna as being at a “critical turning point,” warning that present decisions would determine whether the state advances into prosperity or slips further into decline. According to him, “the choices we make today will determine whether our children inherit a state of opportunity and progress or one of decline and missed chances.”

While acknowledging the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Sani noted that Kaduna had once witnessed “bold reforms and significant progress,” crediting the era with “clear vision, strong political will, and commitment to building for the next generation.”

However, he sharply departed from that narrative, declaring that “the reality on our streets, in our institutions, and in our communities tells a different story,” and adding emphatically that “this momentum is dead!”—a statement likely to ignite political debate within Kaduna’s ruling and opposition circles.

Sani further criticized what he described as declining governance standards, limited inclusiveness, and weakening institutional accountability, arguing that these challenges must be urgently addressed if the state is to regain its development trajectory.

He pledged that his administration, if elected, would not only revive earlier reforms but improve on them through sustainable economic planning, job creation, and expanded opportunities for young people and entrepreneurs, promising development that “reaches every part of our beloved state.”

Presenting the ADC as a viable alternative platform, Sani said the party represents “unity, progress, and inclusive leadership,” emphasizing that his ambition is rooted in reform rather than political disruption.

He called on citizens across party lines to support what he described as a collective mission to “reclaim the promise of our state,” stressing that leadership must be defined by competence, integrity, and service.

Political observers say Sani’s declaration signals the early shaping of the 2027 Kaduna governorship race, especially as opposition parties begin to reposition ahead of the electoral cycle. His pointed remarks on the El-Rufai era may also deepen political discourse in the state, potentially polarizing opinion among reform advocates and continuity loyalists.

Analysts further note that his emphasis on inclusiveness and grassroots mobilization could appeal to disaffected voters, but his success will depend heavily on ADC’s organizational strength and its ability to compete against dominant political structures in the state.
