Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections, in a decisive move that signals early political consolidation in the state.
The endorsement was unveiled during a high-level meeting at the government house in Gusau, bringing together party heavyweights including former governors Ahmed Sani Yarima, Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, Abdulaziz Yari, and Bello Matawalle, alongside elected officials, elders, and representatives of youth and women groups from all 14 local government areas.
Speaking at the gathering, Lawal described the timing as crucial as political momentum begins to build toward 2027, stressing that his defection to the APC was a calculated step to reposition the state.
“Our decision to join the APC was not just political but a strategic move to support Zamfara’s repositioning. It positions us to work with the Federal Government, leverage national initiatives, and contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Lawal said.
He added that his administration remains focused on restoring stability, rebuilding institutions, and improving service delivery, while urging party members to uphold unity and discipline. He also warned against internal divisions, insisting that fairness, transparency, and internal democracy would guide party processes.
In a communiqué delivered by Bello
Matawalle, now minister of state for defence, stakeholders said the meeting provided a platform to address party unity, governance coordination, security concerns, and preparations for the 2027 elections.
They reaffirmed their commitment to the APC and formally endorsed Tinubu and Lawal as their preferred candidates for re-election, setting the stage for what could become a fiercely contested political cycle.
