A tweet by former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, has drawn attention to fresh remarks by the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who thanked Nigerians for their “growing support and confidence” in the party amid its recent political realignments.

In the statement referenced in the post, the NDC founder described public trust as the key force driving the party’s expansion, especially following the entry of prominent opposition figures including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“What we are witnessing is a powerful convergence: my role as a party organiser and builder, alongside two political heavyweights with immense grassroots support, popularity and political experience… all coming together under one platform,” he said.

He reiterated that the NDC aims to evolve into a strong ideological institution comparable to established global parties such as the African National Congress and the Communist Party of China, particularly in terms of durability, structure and long-term relevance.

According to him, the party is deliberately structured to empower youths and women, while fostering mentorship and preparing citizens for leadership. “It is designed to serve the people, not just the big, strong, and powerful, but also the ordinary and the vulnerable,” he stated.

Providing context, he disclosed that the NDC’s registration process dates back to 2017 when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially approved it before the process was halted. He added that the application was later updated when party registration resumed, with supporting documents such as annexures and an early search for the party’s “V-sign” logo cited as evidence of its origins.

The party leader also warned that a project of such scale would attract resistance, including “rumours, gossip, propaganda, and even blackmail,” urging Nigerians to remain focused.

“I therefore urge Nigerians to discountenance and ignore such propaganda about the NDC or any of its leaders and remain focused on the bigger picture,” he said.

He called on citizens to join the party, participate in its activities and contest elections. “Together, let us reclaim and rebuild our country,” he added.

Dickson’s tweet amplifies the growing national conversation around the NDC’s emergence and the implications of the Obi-Kwankwaso alignment, which analysts say could reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of future elections.

However, they note that maintaining unity among key actors and translating public goodwill into electoral gains will be decisive for the party’s prospects.
