Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined members of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s family, political leaders and close associates at a first-year remembrance programme held in honour of the late Nigerian leader.
Afrilensnews reports that the event featured prayers and supplications for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul, while participants reflected on his years of service and contributions to Nigeria.
Sharing details of the event on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote:
“Today, I joined family members, other leaders and associates at the First Year Remembrance, Prayers and Supplications held in honour of our former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
We reflected on his years of service to our country and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul. May Almighty Allah continue to grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give his family, loved ones and our nation the strength to honour his legacy with gratitude and dignity.”
The remembrance gathering comes one year after Buhari’s passing and forms part of ongoing activities by family members, political associates and supporters to honour his memory and legacy.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 after previously leading the country as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, remains one of the nation’s most influential political figures.
His administration was defined by its anti-corruption drive, infrastructure development initiatives and efforts to tackle insecurity, although it also faced criticism over economic challenges and security concerns.
The remembrance event underscores Buhari’s enduring influence in Nigeria’s political landscape and reflects continued respect from political leaders across party lines. It is also expected to reinforce discussions about his legacy and the long-term impact of his administration on governance and national development.
